I think of my paintings as spontaneous creations, expressing my desire to be less self-important and egotistical about art. In the past, I have thought of myself as a visual “pusher”- that is, I want to push you, the viewer, into something unexpected and to reach a part of yourself that may ordinarily be unaffected by random acts of creative ramblings. Many of my recent paintings have a rubbed look because they have many layers of paint underneath. If my work can touch people emotionally– if there is a smile, a sense of knowing, even a shudder– then I will have done my job well. |

I like to paint in series because after I finish a painting I see so many more possibilities to explore that I continue until I have done at least 5 different versions. I don’t limit myself by working only with brushes or palette knives, but use whatever is within my reach as a tool to create my art. Texture is very important to me because I have a blind friend who likes to “see” my paintings with her hands. |

Sleeping is Like Flying The EmBedded Material Language of Comfort, Intimacy, Rest and Pleasure What do our everyday interactions between our bodies, our possessions, and our environment reveal to us about the layering of materiality and consciousness? In my recent work I have used the site of the bed, our bedclothes, and the experience of sleep to look at layers of materiality and consciousness. I am interested in a material’s history of use, as well as the dream-like, archetypal and mythological imagery that is embedded in the closer inspection of our body’s interaction with a material. |

My art celebrates the supremacy of the imagination. My paintings are about the subtle and dynamic connections of all living things. Spirit speaks to me through stories and images. Colour and form grow out of an inner necessity. To move inside the subject my brushstroke becomes a hand moving with flesh, the organic matter. These paintings, they are my prayers. I am a white woman with the sensibilities of the Native American. I flourished with the nurturance of the Mother and I wish to give back and be a voice for Her survival. |
